Sometimes we can be so stuck in our heads that we are unable to live in the moment and enjoy life to the full. Overthinking can be debilitating. Whether we are focussing on past issues and traumas, or anxious about what the future holds, our peace of mind can be severely impacted. How we are right now is a direct result of our past experiences. Early relationships with parents inform how we view the world. Growing up in an environment where we feel unsafe or there are difficult relationships with our parents is hard. We may question ourselves: Am I ok? Am I good enough? Am I loveable? Can I trust others? Can I trust the world? Living with that constant questioning is hard. Low self esteem impacts every area of our life. Relationships with family and friends can suffer when we don’t believe in ourselves. How can we give our best at home or at work when we are stuck in a downward spiral? In counselling, we can begin to look at the experiences and relationships that have shaped us. Talking about them helps us to understand who we are and why we behave and react in certain ways. This is incredibly liberating. We are able to change, and grow into our true selves, free from the prison of anxiety.
